Can I plug a 6V adapter into a USB-hub?

Asked by klaas4 (2194points) December 31st, 2008

I bought a small USB-hub in which you can also plug an adapter into, but the only suitable adapter I have is a 6V adapter. Is that safe to do, or will the hub get overheated. (USB is usually 5V)

Try it for 15 mins, feel it, and if it scalds your hand like you just touched the sun, then its probably not a good idea to keep using this.
