How do I explain this referral?

Asked by johnnyknoxville08 (237points) January 28th, 2009

I’m emailing a guy about a prospective job. So how do I explain to him that I was referred to/put in contact with him by speaking with my best friend, who spoke with his future brother in law?

i spoke to X and he spoke to Y who referred that i speak with Z

do i just say that Y referred me, even though we don’t know each other?

Since you say that your best friend has already spoke to him about you using him as a referral, then I don’t see how it would be a problem if you say ”(Name of your best friend’s future brother in law) referred me.”

Yeah, I agree just use the future brother in law’s name since he should know the guy.
If he asks how you know each other, then you can get into the details.

I agree with the above. I would say “Y referred me”. If you really feel like you need to get into it, you can say “Y referred me through a mutual friend”. But “Y referred me” is plenty.

One caveat. Y has already said he is OK with you using his name, right? If so, I agree with the other posters.

Good luck on the job.
