What does "IT" stand for in the business world?

Asked by Link (327points) January 29th, 2009

Yeah I’ve been looking for a new job (sadly I only have an English degree) and I keep seeing jobs for people with “IT” experience. What exactly does “IT” mean, and what does someone who is an IT do?

Information Technology. Generally it means knowledge of computers, networking, the Internet, etc. The problem with the phrase is that it covers so many subtopics that it’s very hard to pinpoint exactly what they mean by IT.

@JoeyDesignsStuff thanks but I’ve decided not to get into IT. I don’t want people to think I’m a muppet lol.
