Do you think it's a good idea to sell photographs on a stock photography website?

Asked by frugalbinx (8points) February 26th, 2009

I’m trying to find ways to get paid for my photography work, but I’m not sure if selling to a stock photography site is a good idea or not. Has anyone done this? Do you recommend it?

I don’t see how it could be a terrible thing unless you believe micro stock selling is killing the stock photography industry. I’ve got some photos on a few sites but don’t really see enough money come in to warrant putting more out there.

Others have had better results. Check out Micro stock diaries for some examples of revenue, tips and tricks and general information.

A distant in-law of mine does it. He’s at langephotography.com. You can use my name (Kevin) if you want to chat with him.

I think a good way could be getting some large and small prints of your best, and frame some of them in nice frames. And set up a booth at a local farmer’s market or festival or something.

I go to the local one where I live and there are always a few photographers booths and they seem to pull in a couple hundred dollars a week.

I would…

but personally i don’t want to lose all my rights etc. to my own photographs, thus i sell them as they are and whoever wants to buy them under my personal copyright laws, not.. handing them over to someone else and the sorts
