Can you turn off the transparency of the menubar in Leopard?

I think it’s ugly, even with that new background

I haven’t heard anything about Apple suppplying a way to turn off or modify the transparency of the Leopard menubar. There have been mentions of third-party hacks to do this.

I am thinking it might be one of those things that bothers you from a screenshot, but when actually using it, the feature might please.

I think the “leaning tower of Pisa” effect in the Stacks feature looks terrible. Have to wait an use it before making a decision though.

@deannnnn… how?

deannnnn's avatar

well I’ve never actually used leopard before, but I read on macrumors.com that it can be turned off

I haven’t yet seen a hack for it, but you can “turn it off” by modifying the top of your desktop picture to be a 24-pixel high white stripe. If you want to use a default picture, copy it out of /Library/Desktop Pictures first.

You can install the Non-Transparent Menu Bar hack by Peter Maurer.

This can now be done in System Preferences. No hack/3rd party app required.
