How would you ever decipher what good is if it lasted forever?

kevinhardy's avatar

because people like ruining other peoples lives

Good and bad are endless cycles. All that is good in the world will always be good in the world.

MacBean's avatar

All bad things come to an end, too.

Because somebody decided, centuries ago, that life should SUCK.

because nothing lasts forever… even cold November rain

Everything must end at some point or another. Whoever created us didn’t make us immortal. When we die, all the good things we’ve known will end at that point. Unless there are good things in Heaven. If there is a Heaven and we even go there after we expire, that is. And I’m not sure there is one or we do languish there when we go to the Great Beyond.

Because if something good lasted forever, it would become boring, so how could it remain good? We need the not so good times to make us realize when times are good for comparison.

Maybe it doesn’t end at all and we just perceive it to end?

life has been around for a few billion years.. our planet a couple billion more than that.. the universe has been around for.. well, at least a few days longer than that.

where is this evidence that “all things come to an end?”

I may have worded it a little differently, but I fully agree with ninjacolin. Where is the proof that all good things come to an end? Can anyone be so sure they do?

I also don’t necessarily believe that humans could not know good without bad. I’m undecided on that one.

Another way of looking at it is that all things eventually turn into other things.

At what point does a thing seem to end?
At what point does its goodness seem to leave it?
What made it seem to be good?
Or did it ever have any goodness?
Did it just have being?
Is being not good?
If a thing can go from good to bad, can it not go from bad to good?
Who decides whether it is bad or good?

Well if everything was always good then it wouldn’t be good or bad it would be the same. And sure you may be sad for a while but you will find something that makes you happy and it will so good because of a bad thing
