No Greatest Hits, please. My personal favourites in some kind of chronological (and strange) order would be: Most of the Pink Floyd albums, some Queen, Tapestry by Carole King, most Cat Stevens; some Paul Simon (especially Hearts and Bones, Graceland and Rythm of the Saints; many Frank Zappa; The Eel’s first album…

Collective Soul – Dosage
Pete Yorn has some good albums too.
Do! It’s my all time favorite CD for complete listens.
And,
Seven Mary Three – American Standard
Bush – Sixteen Stone
Postal Service’s “Give Up.” I couldn’t stop listening to it for about two weeks.
Counting Crows’ “August and Everything After” is excellent.
You seem to like the same music as I do, so here’s 3:
“Love over Gold” by the Dire Straits
Simon and Garfunkel’s “Live at Central Park”
Eric Clapton’s “Unplugged”
@Jack79 I do I do! I have those, and I love them – I didn’t include them because I think that almost every album by the artists you mentioned are fantastic from beginning to end. Early Dire Straits, wow – every single song a gem!
Well, these bands usually have mostly good music, i think:
Live
Dido
Cold Play
Watershed (south african)
Prime Circle (south african)
That’s all i can think of now…
@JellyB Don’t forget Johnny Clegg’s early albums with Jaluka and Savuka – gems, eh?!
@Zen Oh…...i don’t know those….. i do like some of Johnny Clegg’s music though!
pretty much any Radiohead album
Second Childhood – Phoebe Snow
Tapestry – Carole King
Dark Side of the Moon – Pink Floyd
Silk Degrees – Boz Scaggs
The Unforgettable Fire – U2
Rumours – Fleetwood Mac
Escape – Journey
Out of the Blue – E.L.O.
The Concert in Central Park – Simon and Garfunkel
Thriller – Michael Jackson
This Binary Universe by BT.
@Bluefreedom Rumours and Thriller I forgot. Good call! Some of the others were mentioned, but in all, an awesome list.
@You and I seem to have similar taste in music; probably because we’re about the same age…
I love both Waltzing Alone and Happy the Man by Guggenheim Grotto. I play both continuously in my car. BTW, they are playing The Canal Room, 285 W Broadway tonight and Union Hall in Brooklyn tomorrow night. $10. And playing World Cafe in Philadelphia on Saturday. They put on a really great show.
I saw them live twice in one month, and gave serious thought to driving 3 hours to hear them two more times. Despite being 52, I listen to a lot of new music, mostly indie, and I Guggenheim Grotto to be like knowing an amazing secret. I find myself quoting their lyrics a lot.

I agree, Graceland – Paul Simon always and forever. Best driving record ever. Well played.
This is a new one, but I really like it.
The Hazards of Love by the Decemberists
In Rainbows – Radiohead
Dark Side of the Moon – Pink Floyd
The Best of Bob Marley and the Wailers
what’s the story (morning glory?) – Oasis
californication – rhcp
duncak sheik – duncan sheik
i’ll think of some others :)
I like the Beatles’ Sargeant Pepper album
Derek & The Dominos – Layla, and Other Love Songs
Marvin Gaye – What’s Going On
The Staple Singers – Be Altitude: Respect Yourself
Judy Garland at Carnegie Hall
Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan – Final Moment
Depeche Mode – Violator
The Beatles – Abbey Road, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band
Action Figure Party
Amy Winehouse – Frank
And Prefab Sprout’s Jordan: The Comeback. I would love to see a Paddy McAloon-penned musical on the West End or Broadway someday. He’s so damn talented.
I was going to say Dark Side of the Moon but it looks like you might have that one covered already!
I mostly listen to death metal so I won’t suggest any of that but there are a couple of albums I can suggest:
Boards of Canada – The Campfire Headphase
Devin Townsend – Ocean Machine
Gustav Holst – The Planet Suite
I could suggest more but I’d be here all week. Give them a try, they stray from your regular tastes but it’s good to move out of your comfort zone every now and then :D
Bowling for soup is a good band and their album “a hangover you don’t deserve” and it’s a funny album.
Cold Play, Jet, The Beatles
GirlTalk – Feed the Animals
Ratatat – LP3
Justice – A Cross the Universe
Hotel California Eagles
Joshua Tree U2
Dark Side of the Moon – Pink Floyd
Bob Dylan: Blood On the Tracks
Squirrel Nut Zippers: Hot
Queen: A Night at the Opera
ELO: New World Record
John Lennon: Imagine
Simon and Garfunkle: Bridge over Troubled Water
Elton John: Goodbye, Yellow Brick Road
The Who: Who’s Next
Pink Floyd: The Final Cut and Dark Side Of the Moon and The Wall
@filmfann You – ARE MY HERO! What an amazing list!
Silent Alarm – Bloc Party
The Devil and God are Raging Inside Me – Brand New
Vheissu & The Alchemy Index – Thrice
Don’t mean to sound like a grunge-alohlic but I’ve never pressed “Skip” on any of these:
“Ten” by Pearl Jam
“Siamese Dream” by The Smashing Pumpkins
“Nevermind” by Nirvana
“Jar of Flies” by Alice in Chains
