How do I get iPhoto to not automatically open when I sync my iPhone?

I hate iPhoto, I never want it to open, especially without asking me first.

in iPhoto, go to iPhoto/Preferences, and on the General tab, locate the option at the bottom “connecting camera opens” and from the pull-down bar select “No Application”.

And, as I learned today, if you have an older version of iPhoto you need to disable the setting in Applications:Image Connect

Open the application “Image Capture” in your applications folder, and you’ll find this setting in its preferences.
