What should I make for breakfast on Christmas morning?

I have this tradition of making breakfast for my significant other on Christmas morning. I have found one recipe that I like so far, but was wondering if my fellow flutherites have any good ideas. Looking for something fairly easy to make, as I am not the best cook. She doesn’t like a lot of meat, just bacon and sometimes sausage.

Im all for either than pancake breakfast. Much syrup to pour as needed and a nice cup of tea to chase away any looming doubts as to whether the turkey will be nicely done.

Sausage breakfast casserole. We have it every year for Christmas breakfast. You make it the night before, put it in the oven when you wake up and in an hour, viola! Breakfast!

1lb bulk sausage
6 slices mushy white bread
3.4 c. cheddar cheese
3.4 c. monterey jack cheese
5 eggs
1 tsp salt
2 c half and half (or milk)
1 tsp dry mustard

Cook sausages over medium heat until well done. Stir to crumble. Drain and set aside.

Spread bread with butter. Cut into cubes. Place cubes in 13×9x2 baking dish. Sprinkle with sausage. Top with cheese.

Combine remaining ingredients. Beat well and pour over mixture in baking dish. Chill at least 8 hours.

Remove from fridge and bake at 350* for 40 – 50 minutes. Serve immediately.

Christmas Morning Wifesaver

Superb! Make the day before and pop in the oven in the morning. Serves 8.

Ingredients:
16 slices white bread, crusts
removed
16 slices Canadian back bacon or
ham
16 slices sharp cheddar cheese
6 eggs
½ tsp. pepper 2 mL
½–1 tsp. dry mustard 2–5 mL
¼ cup minced onion 60 mL
¼ cup finely chopped green pepper 60mL
1–2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce 5–10 mL
3 cups milk 750 mL
dash Tabasco
½ cup butter 125 mL
Special K or crushed Corn Flakes

Instructions:
Set 8 pieces of bread into a 9” x 13” (23×33 cm) buttered, glass baking dish. Cover bread with slices of back bacon. Lay slices of cheddar cheese on top of bacon and then cover with remaining slices of bread to make it like a sandwich. In a bowl, beat eggs and pepper. To the egg mixture add dry mustard, onion, green pepper, Worcestershire sauce, milk and Tabasco. Pour over the sandwiches, cover and let stand in fridge overnight. In morning, melt butter, pour over top. Cover with Special K or crushed Corn Flakes. Bake, uncovered, 1 hour at 350 deg.F (180 deg.C). Let sit 10 minutes before serving. Serve this with fresh fruit and hot cinnamon rolls.

(our family has this every Christmas. My Mom used to make two pans and there was never any left. Put a little ketchup or HP sauce on it. Awesome).

I like th bacon and eggs idea but i’d add something special… They used to sell these things at costco and i don’t know what happened to them but i loved the… hash brown balls stuffed with sausage…. SOOOOOOOO YUMEH!

Look around online, I will see if I can find my recipe for it. It’s an egg bake, where you line the bottom of the pan with bread and put the egg/cheese mix inside, my family loves it!!!

CARAMEL PULL APARTS

1 bag frozen rolls/Rhodes
1 pkg. non-instant butterscotch pudding
2 tbsp. cinnamon
½ c. brown sugar
½ to 1 c. chopped pecans
1 stick melted butter

1. Spray bundt pan, put frozen rolls in pan.

2. Sprinkle with pudding, cinnamon, brown sugar and nuts.

3. Melt butter, pour over rolls. Let rise overnight.

4. Bake at 350 for 20 minutes in morning. Let cool 5–10 minutes. (Don’t let cool too much. It will stick.) Invert and serve.

We have these, the Wifesaver Casserole, fruit salad, fresh OJ and coffee with Bailey’s every Christmas morn. Guaranteed to be good stuff.

Potato Casserole

4–5 large potatoes, diced
12 oz. Velveeta cheese, grated
1 jar Hormel real bacon bits
1 small onion, grated
8 oz sour cream
1 tsp fresh chives
1 tsp paprika
salt and pepper to taste
1 cup water
Preheat oven to 350°F.
Combine potatoes, onion, cheese and bacon bits in a large bowl. Add paprika, chives, salt, pepper, and sour cream and toss well.

Place all ingredients in a 9×13 inch baking dish and pour 1 cup of water over it.

Bake at 350°F for 35–40 minutes or until browned.

French Toast Casserole
1 loaf French bread
8 large eggs
1 cup milk
2 cups half and half
2 Tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
pinch salt

Slice the French bread into twenty 1 inch slices. Arrange the slices in the bottom of a buttered 9×13 casserole dish, overlapping the slices. In a large bowl, combine the eggs, milk, half and half, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Beat with a whisk or rotary mixer until well blended. Pour over the bread slices, making sure all are covered evenly with the egg mixture. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight.

The next day, preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Prepare praline topping:
1 cup butter, softened
1 cup packed brown sugar
1 cup chopped pecans
2 Tablespoons light corn syrup
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
½ teaspoon ground nutmeg

Combine all ingredients for praline topping in a small bowl and spread over the bread. Bake for 40 minutes, until light and fluffy. Serve with maple syrup or honey.

My favorite special day breakfast
Eggs a la King
Boil eggs, dice the whites and set aside the hard yolks
With flour and butter make a rue (paste) and slowly add heavy cream into it while stirring over low heat. This is a white gravy. Add in the diced egg whites, sprinkle some paprika, a squeeze of fresh lemon juice and a teensy sprinkle of ground nutmeg, salt and pepper.
Finely grate the egg yolks, stir in a few tablespoons but keep the rest to sprinkle over later
Toast up your favorite bread or use biscuits but use them as a base to hold the diced egg gravy you ladle on. Sprinkle with some of the grated egg yolk.
Slices of thick bacon (best from Texas)
Orange juice mixed with champagne or white wine
Side dish of canned peaches
Finish with an espresso or Turkish coffee

maybe you should try making something that they like that isn’t really related to christmas at all. Suppose that you made them their favorite breakfast and (if they drink coffee) make them a cup of coffee or tea that has an accent of christmas.

I believe that maybe christmas is special, but your life with that person should never change over that one day. I would would cook for my significant other all the time in the morning when I woke up. I would still do that same if she lived with me now. But what I’m trying to say is that everyday should be special.

my favourite Christmas morning breakfast is scrambled egg on toast, with smoked salmon gently draped over the top of the egg.
Of course, with some orange juice and coffee.
Really easy to make, does not make a mess of the kitchen when you have it all set out for cooking the main meal, and looks quite classy!

Breakfast casserole! @EmpressPixie : That’s the exact recipe we use in our house (or my mother-in-law’s house) for Christmas morning. It’s sooo good.

We also have french toast with berries.

Our family always opts for sweet rolls on Christmas morning. You can eat them with one hand but still unwrap with the other, and they don’t take away your appetite for Christmas dinner later in the day. While from-scratch can be terrific, it can really taste just as good or even better to get bakery sweet rolls and heat them up in the oven just before serving them.

Add a few strawberries and a cup of coffee and you should be good to go.

Really wonderful bread for French toast. It’s always so good, and with real maple syrup, a treat. I put cinnamon in the batter. But there are some great suggestions above as well. This is just easy.

We usually do pancakes or waffles and bacon, but the egg strata/ sausage casserole kind of things can be prepared in advance and just baked or reheated in the morning.

We are having ice cream and stuffed french toast with blueberries and strawberries!!

French toast is really easy. Or you could make muffins. You can buy mixes in boxes and they are really easy. And I like the fritata idea. That’s what I make because I can’t make omelets. Put butter in the pan, crack some eggs (4 – 6 if it’s for two), mix in a bit of milk, add the cooked sausage and whatever else you want and mush it around the pan till the eggs look good and ready. A little salt, pepper and garlic powder can be sprinkled in while it’s cooking. I like mine with mushrooms and cheese!

I have a fantastic buttermilk poundcake that I think is perfect for the morning. You can serve it with berries. It’s something you can make the day before and have it just sitting there ready to eat. The edges are sweet, almost crispy. The recipe is at the bottom

I too, as many mentioned above, love French toast with bacon on the side and real maple syrup.

Another choice is ham steak with potato hash browns and eggs. But this seems like a lot of work, and you mentioned she is not a big meat person.

Omelets and Fritatas are an old stand by. For omelets I like peppers, onions, mushroom and cheese. The fritata I make has small squares of white bread soaked in the egg, but plenty of egg so it is not all soaked up like french toast, fry it up and add Mozerella on top. It tastes like little bits of french toast in the dish.

Oh, is she from a particular ethnic group? Like for my husband I would make a Mexican breakfast.

Pillsbury makes a frozen biscuit that you just heat in the oven, comes in a blue bag in the freezer section and you can make as many as you want and save the rest in the freezer. The “flaky layers” one are super yummy alone, but the other types might be more appropriate for other dishes.. Here is the link to their website http://www.pillsbury.com/products/biscuits/frozen/Grands-Frozen-Biscuits.htm they have some recipe ideas on there.

Buttermilk Pound Cake

Preheat oven 325 degrees. Grease and flour 1 large bundt pan.

2 sticks butter (margarine works also)
3 cups sugar
3 cups flour
¼ teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon salt (I don’t add this, because I use salted margarine)
1 cup buttermilk
2 teaspoons vanilla
4 eggs

Cream butter and sugar together. Add eggs one at a time. Add flour alternatively with buttermilk. Add baking soda and vanilla. Beat all together until well blended. (I use an electric hand mixer, although you can beat by hand, but my hand would hurt, it is a very heavy batter).

Bake about 1 to 1¼ hours. Let cool in pan 10 minutes.

Egg Gravy, bacon, and biscuits.
Egg Gravy is simply a thick white flour gravy with hard boiled eggs chopped into it.
Break the biscuits into small pieces, and pour the gravy over it. You won’t believe how good this is. (the bacon is on the side)
