I am redoing a kitchen and need a new stove top and oven (separate applicances)--both electric. What are the best kinds, and where to buy them?

consider a gas stove. i know you didn't ask, but they are so much easier (and less dangerous) to cook on.

There is no gas available.

build a firepit. or perhaps get a wood-burning stove.

I have one large tank of propane delivered from gas co. Range is hooked up. Tank is installed outside and piped in. The one change I made to the house when I bought it. You might be able to get gas for the stove top; the oven is less important..

Several times a year the gas co. shows up to check on tank and replace if necessary. Worth it for cooking ease, particularly when power goes out, which it does a lot here.

not knowing anything about this, what about Kitchen aid. Check consumer reports too.

I really like ceramic top stoves, they heat fast and are the most energy effecient. I found some cooktops on sears.com (search for ceramic cooktops). The bad side is they range from $500 - $1000. The site also has kenmore and whirlpool cooktops. For the stove I would suggest a convection oven (well worth the extra price). Are you after an inser or wall oven?

what does a convection oven do that makes it worth the extra bucks?

Kenmore - Sears - I used to do all sorts of research before buying my appliances and Consumer Reports always rates Kenmore in the top five choices. Figure out your price range and there will be a Kenmore appliance that is built for it. All of our Kenmore appliances have never given us any problems. Don't buy the extended warranty (ever)

All I know about convenction ovens is that I never had an oven bake something at the suggested temperature and time until I went to convection - now if it says 45 minutes it is done in 45 minutes

@gailcalled, A convection oven has a fan that moves the hot air around the food while cooking, which cooks it faster. Therefore it’s more efficient because you use less fuel. In time, you’ll make up the extra cost in fuel savings.
