Right foot falls asleep when I get out of bed in the morning. Any suggestions on what to do?

Asked by crazyandbeautiful (554points) February 11th, 2010

Every morning for the past few months my right foot seems to fall asleep when I get out of bed in the morning. This morning I fell out of bed because my foot was asleep. It is very annoying and I do not know what to do. Does this happen to anyone else? And if so what did you do to stop it from happening?

Are you sleeping in some god awful pretzel-like position that would cut off the flow of blood to your foot? If not I don’t know what to say, except this question and the description made me “lol”.

Have you had your blood sugar levels checked lately?

I agree with @deni that you may be cutting off circulation to that part of your leg in how you are sleeping. Changing you sleep position would be an obvious solution but not practical as your will more than likely end up back in that position no matter how hard you tell yourself not to. Try wearing heavy sweat pants to act as padding so the offending leg cannot have such direct pressure…I have heard of people having to resort to sewing tennis balls into their pajamas to keep them from laying a certain way.

I had to wear a wrist brace to correct a bad sleeping position that was causing carpal tunnel issues in my wrist. Good luck!

Why not fasten an alarm clock to the foot that is asleep, and set the clock for the time you want to wake up LOL !!

Before you move to a sitting position at the edge of the bed, wiggle your right foot and rotate it in both directions to get the blood flowing. Then do the same when sitting, before rising. If that doesn’t do it, check with MD. It could be minor; it could be the precursor to something serious.

Two things, change your position, while sleeping, meybe you an use a pillow or something? And, check your B12.

As a hoilistic practitioner, I can tell you what it means, and why it is happening to you:
The right foot represents our connection to the ground & the material realm, on the active aspect, such as going to work and sustaining ourselfs in all ways relevant.
This symptom somtimes occurs when one is not capable or not taking care of the physical aspects of their life: finance, homekeeping, nutrition, or other material issues.
If this is true for you, all you need to do to make the symptom go away, is to start taking care of your bussiness.
Other treatments that would help: Chinese Acupuncture, Reflexology and Herbal Remedies perscribed by an authorised herbalist.

Or maybe you need a better bed.
