Humans infected with computer viruses; what are your thought?

Asked by erichw1504 (26453points) May 26th, 2010

Came across this article on Gizmodo today.

What are your thoughts on this subject? How big of an issue could this be in the future? How far will it go? What are it’s possibilities? Are we headed toward a zombie apocalypse? How can we prevent such hazards? Will people be able to hack into our bodies the same way they do with computers?

Tell us your imaginative, far-out scenario that this could generate.

Any other thoughts?

MIND CONTROL!!!!!!

A group of scientists already showed that it might be possible to hack into someone’s implanted defibrillator. I’m not sure if it would be possible to directly hack into someone’s brain, though. A defibrillator does have components to transmit a signal, since doctors will often test its functioning over the telephone. As far as I know, there’s no wi-fi for the brain (yet). :-)

I think Gizmodo needs to worry about its impending lawsuit with Apple more than human computer viruses…

My word stands.

@Dr_Dredd says I think there is a disitinction to be made between the computer chips being infected with viruses and the human body being infected… once that bridge has been crossed there would be all sorts of philosophical, scientific, epistemological and theological considerations to explore…

Yes, very good. I should have included that in my description.

It’s difficult for me to contemplate this when we’re up to our asses in oil in the Gulf. When you see such ineptness, you wonder how people could be capable of anything beyond their shoe laces…let alone, mind control.

Once we decide to put technology in our bodies that can receive signals form the outside world, viruses (or other types of techniques) become a problem. No matter how good the protection, someone will crack it…

@Dr_Dredd Even if there is no direct connection between the technology and the brain, it doesn’t mean that wi-fi into say… the arm/heart can’t create an indirect interface into (part of) the brain.
