What is my husband's relationship to my sister's husband?

Asked by sjg102379 (1250points) March 3rd, 2007
I think that they're brother-in-laws (even if only by marriage). My friend thinks that there is no word for the relationship. Which one of us is right?

My husband has always called my sister's husband his brother-in-law. I've always understood that to be the correct name for the relationship. YOU WIN!

There are some good, subtle words in Yiddish. Let me know if you want them. B-o-l certainly works. But what, for example, if your mother considers her daughter's husband's parents part of the family? What to call them?

little note: plural is brotherS-in-law, not brother-in-lawS

@gailcalled: mother’s daughter’s husband’s parents would be their “macheteinesters.” It is Yiddish, but as far as I know the only word for that specific relationship.
