Should your flurthday be a recognized event?

Asked by erichw1504 (26453points) September 9th, 2010

Shouldn’t your flurthday, or Fluther birthday, be a recognized event each year since a user has been a member of this site?

Maybe an award or at least a mention in the Community Feed?

My 1st flurthday came this past July and I was excited. If you’ve had a flurthday, were you excited or did you not even notice?

What should the jelly to human age ratio be?

I remembered mine but no one else did.

@mrentropy Hey! We have the same flurthday! Did you find this site from a Lifehacker article?

How many flutherers are there?

Jeruba's avatar

No, I don’t think so. I’m sorry, dear, but if a party is what you have in mind, I would see that as another empty question.

I did notice my first and will probably notice my second, but I don’t expect anyone else to. It’s just a fact to note with interest in passing and then forget.

I just hope you all notice when I am gone.

@Jeruba No more parties, there’s plenty with the 10k and 20k. Just an award or mention in the community feed would be neat, no?

@erichw1504 Why yes, yes it was the Lifehacker article that pointed me here.

I don’t see anything wrong with some recognition. Perhaps the greeting phrase could say happy flurthday.

There could be a small announcement for this in the announcement sidebar. Maybe it’s not as significant as someone reaching 5K/10K/nK lurve, but surely about as interesting as those announcements that user X got upvoted for comment Y on thread Z or got added to a fluther or what have you.

I like the idea. I think that it should be as significant if not moreso – long-time commitment that isn’t necessarily connected with winning “lurve” is perhaps more admirable.

Plus, there was a recent thread indicating that we don’t always get lurve for our most thoughtful moments…as opposed to winning it more often when we’re just joking.

Reddit puts a little cake next to your username on your anniversary.

Cake? Would there be cake? I love cake

Jeruba's avatar

Cake, now, that’s different. Especially of the pan variety.

augustlan's avatar

I would love that! Not a party, certainly, but a sidebar mention and maybe a different award for each year. If none of that, it would at least be cool to have the site acknowledge it to you. Fluther pancakes would be perfect for that. :)

JilltheTooth's avatar

@augustlan ; Why yes, yes they would.

tedibear's avatar

I like this idea! Even though my 2 year anniversary was last month, I still volunteer to make cake to share with all of you.

@MissA

According to Ben, there were 33,904 flutherers as of March 22, 2010.

fundevogel's avatar

hmm…maybe they should limit the flurthday recognition to people that have logged in within the last month.

zen_'s avatar

Only 49 more weeks to go before my first.

erichw1504's avatar

@fundevogel I thought of that as well.
