When I have a steak at home I usually just have a simple salad of mixed greens, tomatoes and red onions.

For classic steakhouse meals here are some ideas.

Option 1: A wedge salad with bleu cheese dressing, a baked potato with sour cream and chives and a side of barbecued beans.

Option 2: Steamed broccoli, garlic mashed potatoes, and mushrooms sauteed in butter and balsamic vinegar.

Option 3: Spicy red cabbage slaw, wedge cut French fries, and roasted Brussels sprouts with parmesan cheese.

And don’t forget the dessert: brownies with walnuts topped with a scoop of spumoni ice cream! Bon Apetite!

I don’t cook steak as often as I used to, but when I do, I’ve got to have it with mushrooms, baked beans, a simple salad, sometimes corn on the cob, and of course ketchup and Worcestershire sauce.

Very fattening but as a “once in a great while” side dish…Fettucine Alfredo is marvelous with a steak!

Any type of potatoes, (especially fries) go good. Green beans or peas work as well. One trick I do is when I fry a steak try buying fresh, steakcut mushrooms, not the canned or jarred ones. Try frying the fresh mushrooms with cut onions with the steak. The shrooms will mix with the steak gravy and are themselves an excellent side dish. Trust me you would like this.

I would say either/or to the potato/salad. I personally prefer a nice fresh salad with my steak and no carbs. The main reason people feel so full and heavy after a meal of steak, potato, and salad, is because your body is fighting with itself to digest both acidic and alkaline foods. It is best to choose either the potato and steak or the salad and steak, but not all three.
