What song is stuck in your head right now or was earlier?

Asked by erichw1504 (26453points) October 7th, 2010

Sometimes it can be annoying, other times enjoyable; a song you’ve heard that plays over and over in your head.

What is the most recent song that has gotten stuck in your head? How long was it or has it been in your head? Was it a song you enjoy? Has it or did it disrupt your day? Did you break out and start singing it out loud? Is there a song that you seem to always get stuck in your head?

Is there a scientific explanation to this “experience”?

What song most often/easily does this to everyone?

Right now I’ve got Waiting for the End by Linkin Park in my head. I really don’t like the song (haven’t really liked anything Linkin Park as of lately) and I hope it goes away. I guess I should put on some music I like to get it out of there! It’s been in my head since this morning.

Just the drum line from the “chorus” of Jenifa Taught Me by De La Soul. I have no idea who they sampled it from.

Fell asleep listing to Empty by Metric last night, I think. Bits of it have been stuck in my head all day.

The kids have got me listening to this cute ickle fella & yes, for better or worse, i’ve got the pesky tune stuck in my head! If it’s blocked let me know & i’ll tell you the name so you can google it :¬)

I listen to a fairly eclectic selection of tunes throughout the day, so usually the latest will bump the previous one.

The last time I couldn’t get a song out of my head was March, 1967.

I was stratospherically high.
I heard a tune playing on an endless loop over an empty horse racing track’s PA system, and I couldn’t remember the name of the tune or much else about it, except that it sounded familiar.

I told myself that if I could name or otherwise recognize it, it would stop playing.
I finally realized It was “Whiskey Bar” by the Doors, and it stopped.

A “song stuck in one’s head” is also known as an earworm.

In my experience they last from hours to days, and I’ve had so many (none at present) ranging across genres from jazz to classical to rock that I can’t generalize.

Whenever I watch the episode of Two and a Half Men when Charlie creates the theme song to Oshikuru, a fictional anime TV show, I always get it stuck in my head for a while.

It goes:
A teenage boy with a sprit inside of a samuria warrior who long ago died.
Now he’s O….O….O….O Oshikuru
O….O….O….O Oshikuru
My oh My he’s a demon Samurai
Who’s the guy who had to die…....O-shi-ku-ru.

There’s even a Facebook page dedicated to it.

@gasman Thanks for your added wisdom. I didn’t know it was called earworm… also called “tune wedgy”! Hah!

I almost always have a song stuck in my head, today it was Keep Up by Hyper Crush. I like the song, so I was enjoying listening to it over and over again in my head at school today.

Since posting on another question here today, I have had “I Believe in a Thing Called Love” by The Darkness stuck in my head. I have shared this earworm with my co-workers by singing bits of it and also posted it on my Facebook page for my loved ones :)

Not an ear worm, but this one works

Tetrastar’s cute sweet-dreams cover of “Crank That,” which is infinitely more listenable than the original.

Right now it’s “You’re So Vain” by Carly Simon.
(I have no idea…)

@erichw1504and they keep playing it on the radio!!!! Every replay in my head kills another brain cell.

I have finally forced The Darkness out of my head, but it took three listens to “Let’s Get Ready to Rumble” by PJ and Duncan (Ant and Dec) to do the trick. Fortunately, I love Ant and Dec.

Bohemian Rhapsody sung by the famous Queen
I see a little silhouetto of a man,
Scaramouche, Scaramouche, will you do the Fandango
Thunderbolt and lightning, very, very fright’ning me
(Galileo) Galileo (Galileo) Galileo, Galileo figaro
Magnifico I’m just a poor boy and nobody loves me
He’s just a poor boy from a poor family,
Spare him his life from this monstrosity
Easy come, easy go, will you let me go

Particularly that part

@Aesthetic_Mess Frankie Avalon sang it in the movie, Grease.
It was meant to encourage one of the girls to finish high school and forget about beauty school. Oh, brother.
