Okay, I’m doing a social work assignment, and I would normally ask the professor himself about a clarification, but he’s at his mother’s funeral and I’d rather not disturb him or anything in his time of grief…

Basically, the question is, “Social workers can work in a variety of positions. Identify four positions that a social worker could have.”

The problem is, does it mean positions like careers, or degrees, or something? I would assume it means careers, but the question before asked “Social workers are employed in a variety of settings, list four of them.”

So I’m confused. I know the answers for the different possibilities, but it could go either way, I think. I know what careers they could work in, and I know what degrees they can have, but its kind of unclear.

What do you think positions means in this?

It is a shame that more professors do not give the students time to digest the assignment and ask for clarification, if needed.

Here is my interpretation: a position would be along the line of a job title; a setting would be more of the location. Does that help?

@Pied_Pfeffer : Well, I don’t think that he expected his mother to die, so it isn’t really his fault, either, you know?

And so position would be like, Dr., Supervisor, etc. Okay, that makes a lot more sense. ^^ Thank you.

“position” means “job within the field”. As in, what do they do? What are their job responsibilities/tasks?

The previous question means what environments do they work in? (ie, schools, juvenile halls, etc).

@MrItty : Ehh, I guess I need to break out my whiteout. I put that the settings were child welfare, healthcare, criminal justice, etc. Gosh.

It is what @MrItty says. ^

But I would write an all- encompassing answer just to be sure.

@troubleinharlem My apology. I meant allowing time for review and clarification while in class.

@Pied_Pfeffer : Yeah, true, I suppose that would have helped. But what can we do? (:

Take a look here. Caseworker, youth case manager, mental health therapist… I bet you can find more. I’m pretty sure it’s job titles.

I agree wtih Wundayatta; positions such as caseworker, therapist, school social worker….All of these would have an MSW I believe and therapists should have a LCSW in addition.

I’m thinking since it says “Social Workers” that it would be careers or jobs.

@Gamrz360 : Yeah, but both questions had “social workers” in them, so it wouldn’t necessarily be careers or jobs.
