Is riding a pushbike bad for bulging spinal discs?

My back has several spinal discs that have not burst, but are bulging slightly into the spinal cord area causing discomfort. Will gentle pushbike riding aggravate the problem in the long term as I seem to experience no problems so far? Back does get sore when walking any distance ie 2km.

Exercise helps back pain.

what is a pushbike? Is it like a bicycle that you pedal? I used to ride a mtn bike and as long as I didn’t over do it I actually felt somewhat better in my back.

Low impact exercise, such as bike riding or swimming, is good. So is yoga. It’s generally recommended with back injuries that you work on strengthening your core muscles to offset the pressure on your back. Ask your doctor about the level of exercise for your particular condition, and don’t overdo it.

Riding a pushbike is excellent for some back problems. I rode a lot when I had a prolapsed disc (slipped disc) and it helped enormously, and I haven’t suffered any long term consequences.

I have had bulging discs and I have had four back surgeries. My first was in the 80s, when endoscopy had not yet been invented. The last three surgeries were easy to recover from. The first, I am still having problems with. That disc ballooned out toward my stomach. The only access was to cut the muscles to the right of my spine. Since then, I have suffered death with lower back muscles that will never be normal. I have accepted this. My only salvation is exercise to keep those muscles loose and functioning.

Each morning, I ride a stationary bike for 30 minutes. I pretend I am biking my way to KMart for their blue light specials. Remember those?

Riding your bike may be your only salvation, also. my doctor states my bike-riding can do nothing but help my ailing back muscles.

I see no problems for you and your bike. The key is to keep it up. Go for it.
