The biggest problem with our justice system today is that its more a “lock-them-away-and-that’ll-teach-them” method than a rehabilitation method. If you take a guy who dropped out of high school and made his living off of burglarizing or something, throw him in jail for five years, then let him out with a couple hundred bucks, nowhere to go, no job, and still no education….. what do you think he’s going to do?
The old “get tough on crime” mantra has caused far more harm to our justice system than good. Every time a politician is elected with that as a platform, the people working in our prisons cringe.
