New Yorker stories.

This grammar web site is by far the best I’ve found because it doesn’t just tell “what” the rules are but often also explains “why.” It also gives tips on how to remember complicated rules.
I teach English and use this as a reference frequently. I do follow up on other web sites for additional information, but this is my starting point.

Librivox.org is a site where volunteers read works that are in the public domain. The catalogue is down for a couple of days for maintenance.

I’ve downloaded quite a few books and I love all the various accents. My favourite is The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn read by LibraryAnnie.

Not really a story site, but www.livemocha.com is an online community where you share your own language knowledge in exchange for tutoring in the language you want. Warmly recommended start.
