Wow I don’t out right ban anyone, but I do have apprehensions about a lot of the same people as you bunch.
Nic Cage is the only one I have a rule about. I only see Nic Cage in cheesy movies. And I love him in those. I think it’s because he really commits to them….and overacts his dear sweet heart out. And then there’s his contribution to Rob Zombie’s Grindhouse trailer which I love.
I used to loath Cameron Diaz, but she was granted a complete pardon for A Life Less Ordinary. I still don’t see her movies often though.
Jim Carrey….I don’t outright hate him or his style of comedy. Honestly, I think it has something in common with the physical comedy of Keaton and Chaplin, which I dearly miss in modern cinema. But he’s kinda played himself out and I just want him to shut his face when he starts waxing all new age and telling people not to vaccinate. I really have a low tolerance for crazy.
I certainly see less of Mel Gibson because his behavior leaves a bad taste in my mouth. But he is a genuinely good actor so if he’s in something that looks really good I could probably watch. The Beaver is the first thing since his shit hit the fan that tempts me. I don’t extend the same courtesy to the stuff he directs, but I was never really into those anyways.
As far as Tom Hanks goes I like him in The Burbs and Toy Story movies. You know, when he’s funny. Remember when Tom Hanks was funny? @meiosis is right. The rest is saccharine nonsense.
Adam Sandler is not outright banned but he’s probably the closest to it of anyone. I just don’t like his comedy style. It’s too much like getting hit in the head with a shovel.
And then there’s Gwyneth Paltrow. I guarantee this is a woman I could not hang out with. She’s fantastic in The Royal Tenenbaums, but I’ve long had a sense that she a certain kind of nutty, which apparently puts me off people. Her website about how to be a better person put me over the top.
