I know there are eight of them. Is there any other information you have about them? Are they like the eyes of insects?

They are not compound eyes, AFAIK. And their size and distribution varies.

Spider have simple eyes and they are located on the anterior end of the cephalothorax. Most spiders have eight eyes, but some have fewer. The number and arrangement of the eyes provide characteristics useful in distinguishing the different families of spiders.

The eyes of insects generally are in two forms: Compound and simple. Some insects like dragon flies have both compound and simple eyes.
