Sorry about taking so long to get back to you. I’m not a body builder. I injured and lost strength inmy right hamstring muscles and I simply want to regain the lost strength. I’ve researched to see what body builders do. If it works for them and if it helps and not hurts then it is worth a try. I’ve been drinking whey protein and dextrose (also Creatine tablets) after workouts for almost 4 years and my strength is nearly where I want it. I’m very encouraged by this. Could I have mad such gains without the special post workout drinks? Maybe. I just don’t know. Anyway I hope that the following information helps. I found information for post weight training work-out meals that contain dextrose and whey protein on a few sites. Such as site
In the above web-site I picked out this quote for you:
“An ideal post-workout shake is going to contain quality proteins such as branched-chain amino acids that will give some boost to your immune system. One of the most popular sources of that is whey protein. Because these protein complexes have their own higher glycemic index, they’ll also help to stimulate the insulin surge in order to begin replacing fuel in the muscle cells.
This is the time when the sugars work best and where the dextrose comes into play. If you mix the right amount your body will drag that right into the muscle cells for nutrient stores. There’s no chance of it being stored as fat and those healthy fats that you do take in from your shake will also provide additional fuel to aid in the rebuilding and recovery of your muscles.”
