At a gate in SFO, I saw a 30-something new age-y looking woman lean forward to a woman across the aisle of seats. This woman was somewhere north of 65, wearing leopard print fake fur, with a silver lame wide belt, and a huge leather handbag studded with big metal studs. There were also big metal studs down the seams of her pants. The younger woman said, “I’m a feng shui consultant, and I wanted to tell you that it is very auspicious to be wearing all this metal this year.” To which, the older woman, totally uncomprehending said, “What did you say?” As the earnest young woman began repeating herself, I shook my head and thought to myself, “Only in San Francisco.”
