The Book of Shadows features two pretty gothic characters, who both are very different, allowing for a very good and fun exploration of the goth feel…but since it’s a gothic tale well…lol. Madeline, a ghost who committed suicide by impaling her own throat with one of em fireplace pike things, is broody and dark, and only hangs around until one of the characters can set her at peace. She always talks all weird, because of the wound to her throat. But you’d really have to read it…there’s also Sebastiana, a witch who serves as mentor for the protagonist. She’s one of those classic good witches you find in this kind of book, but the author really worked her out good.
Oh also, Katrina Van Tassel from Sleepy Hollow. You’re probably familiar with Tim Burton’s movie, but in the actual written story, Katrina has kind of a goth feel, although I’m not entirely sure how intentional that was.
And of course, the ever so famous lesbian vampire, Carmila, an old vampire story by Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu.
