People say it ruins your hair as it depletes it of nutritions but others say that it makes it healthy. What do you think?

I wash my hair every three days. Not that I am not a clean person, it’s just to keep my hair from falling out. This may be an old wives tale that was given to me by my grandmother. She died with a head full of hair. So far, I still have all my hair and I contribute this to not washing my hair every day.

It depends on the person’s body chemistry. Some people have naturally oily hair, or they do hard physical labor that requires them to bath daily. Others have naturally dry hair that can probably be washed less often.

It is a sin to wash off the God given dirt.

Welcome to Fluther!

You would think that we would have this figured out by now. The reality is that the need to wash one’s hair varies from person to person. Age, skin type, environment, amount of activity, and just plain an individual’s body makes a difference. A person’s chosen hair style also contributes to the factor.

The bottom line is that hair is dead. No amount of nutrients applied to it will bring it back to life. Even if a person changes to a healthier diet or starts taking vitamins, it will only potentially effect the hair follicle and not the existing hair.

If you have an extra oily scalp then daily washing with a lite clarifying shampoo is probably a good idea. I wash mine every other day and shampoo my bangs and style daily. In the summer, if I get extra hot and sweaty from exercising I wash it daily. Actually it is 90 degrees here today and one thing I do a lot in the summer is to wash my hair in the garden hose while sitting in my hot tub. haha

I just dilute a little shampoo and lean back over the edge and give it a quickie wash. It feels great, nothing like ice cold water on your head to cool you off. :-)
As long as you use a good conditioner you’re fine. Hair is dead and no product “penetrates” the hair shaft, all products simply coat the hair to give it a softer and smoother feeling. You may dry your hair out and damage it from over processing with colors, bleaching and dying, but it is a myth that daily washing depletes your hair of “nutrients.”

It depends on who you are and how active you are.

If you have especially oily hair (to the point where it’s visible) or if you work out/sweat a reasonable amount on a daily basis, then you should wash your hair every day.

If not, then you should generally go for washing it every other day to avoid drying out your hair.

That being said, it really does vary from person to person, so you should go with what works best for you!

It depends on how much money you don’t want to spend on shampoo. If you wash it every three days, you have to buy shampoo one third as often as if you washed it every day.

You should wash your hair when it’s dirty. How often that is depends on your hair and lifestyle. If I washed mine every day, it would be like straw, since mine is dry to begin with.

A hair should only be washed once or twice a month. Any more than that and not only does it’s cotton tail straighten out, it also looses it’s taste for carrots.

My hair tends to look and feel better when I wash it only once a week but its hard to do because washing ones hair is a really enjoyable experience (at least for me)

My hair gets really oily by the end of the day. So I wash my hair everyday.

I wash my hair daily. Men usually wash hair daily here since they don’t have that long hair like women. Here climate is sunny all year round and it dries quickly. In summer, that is now, temperatures have reached 40 degree Celsius. So, cooling effect of bath is also very relieving. In winters temperatures go down up to 6 degree Celsius. But then also I wash hair daily.

Water is considered important here for hair. We use river water for hair washing, and that’s considered good. Water from underground (from bored/drilled wells) is considered heavy; and many people experience hair loss due to it.

I wash my hair every day and my hair is still not damage. It’s the norm in my country to wash our hair every day. You would be tease that you did not take a bath if they will notice that your hair is always dry hehe. We do not usually blow dry our hair too. After washing my hair I just towel dry it and I’m good to go. My hair is naturally straight though.
