“Great Question” (3points)

I am a complete and utter novice at Excel, and I have a spreadsheet that was designed for me to keep track of unpaid balances (at work). Each time I print a report in our internal software, I compare accounts to what’s already been entered in the spreadsheet to prevent duplication, and I’ve doing that comparison manually by scrolling up the list and looking. But the list is getting extensive, and I suspect there’s a way to “search” for an item within the spreadsheet, I just don’t know how.

Did I manage to express my question at all clearly? Is there a way to see if an item is already present in a spreadsheet? Can you teach me how?

Ctl-F will open a search window in Excel.

You can do a much simpler and more comprehensive and automated lookup when you learn how to use the VLOOKUP function in Excel.

Feel free to PM me with an email address and I can send you simple examples to get you started. Ctrl-F is for people who have all kinds of time to spare, love pushing keys, and don’t mind working the old-fashioned way. I’m much too lazy for that; I do these kinds of things in a few seconds (and with permanent records) using VLOOKUP.

Yes, I second for vlookup. Depending on your data, you may want to use other lookup functions too (like hlookup, lookup, match, index, etc.).
