I just want to be sure that I don’t waste space on my hard drive or get a bug.

What Operating system do you have? I have OS-X and I used Handbrake, but apparently there is one for PC as well.

zamzar.com

I use this one all the time. The videos literally take no more than a few minutes to convert. I’ve never had any viruses from it either. A very good website.

I use Freemake (open source) – all the time.

I love ISkysoft video converter!

@whiteliondreams Oh of course sorry, I have Windows 7.

@lookingglassx3 Wow, I adore the idea of being able to do it directly from a website as opposed to downloading anything at all. I don’t like downloading stuff to this laptop to keep the space open and system clean.

@lookingglassx3 Ah shoot! That website won’t convert a MKV file. I guess I should have specified that too. XP

Of course PhotoShop is the Acadia, but with a Cadillac price tag and a steep learning curve. If on Windows, thry ThumbsPlus.

@ETpro Photoshop? That’s an image program. I am asking about converting a video.

@DarknessWithin My bad. Sleepy and didn’t read the OP fully. Sorry.

Free 3gp videoconverter works like a charm! Sometimes it feels a bit limited tough, I mostly use it for converting files to .mp4 to either play on my mobile, or convert to a little bit higher quality…

Also you should mention Klite codec pack on your computer, this will install video codecs on your computer, so you can play more files on your computer… Video files are coded in somesort of code like quicktime H264 if you don’t have this codec installed, you will probably not be able to view any file with this codec.

@XYZZYtja Can it convert MKV to AVI?

UPDATE: (I can’t edit the OP or I would add this there :P) I just tried a few websites that let you convert directly from them for free but none work with my video. I keep getting that the type is not supported or it’s too big. One even gave me “Unknown Error”.

XYZZYtja's avatar

Yes it can! It comes for free as well, check it out if you haven’t already!

Great thank you, I will keep it in mind.
