I’ve heard 45 to 90 minutes, but I don’t know of any official stats confirming this. Anyone care to prove this estimate right or wrong? Thanks!

45 to 90 minutes per session, per week, per month?

Sometimes I browse for 30 minutes, sometimes I (and my list) are in and out in 10 minutes. I do see some people who stare, mesmerized, for a long time at the 637 different choices of peanut butter, but don’t know whether that is habitual behavior.

As little time as possible! I know quite a few people who spend about that every time they go in. I’m usually done in 15 minutes. If I’m there for as long as 30, I start getting anxious and check out. I do this for any kind of shopping, though. I love shopping, but hate being in one spot too long. :)

Not counting travel or unnecessary browsing time in various stores twice a week, probably 90–135 minutes per week as an average. It’s very dependent on when/where I go, if I know ahead of time what I’m going to make, and how much restocking I need to do.

When I was raising two teen-agers, holding down a serious job, being nice to my husband and acting the role of wife of the head of school, we had shopping down to an art. We were both super busy.

I planned the week’s meals and then did a serious list that followed the map of the supermarket. We tore the list in half; I did one half and my husband the other. We were in and out in 40 minutes.

I had a master list that I used for staples.

According to this study, men spend 39 minutes each time they shop, on average, whereas women spend 43 minutes. The average time spent shopping, not including getting to and from the store, is 41 minutes. This was from a study done in 2008.

I have no idea whether things might change by year. I kind of doubt it. But if you want to search for more studies, you can use this search.

It depends for me. If I stick to familiar stores I can get in and out pretty quickly, but if I drop in a market I am not familiar with it takes f-o-r-e-v-e-r!
This happened to me last week, dropped in a huge Raleys store in town I don’t go to often. Sheesh..took me about 45 minutes to find everything I wanted.

I have a 20 – 25 minute commute to each of 3 different stores in my rural area, depending on which of 3 towns I choose to go to that day. I mix it up, but between the drive and the shopping I am out, on average for 1.5 hours.

Around 45 minutes to an hour two or three times a week, except weekends when we go to Sams for the free food with the kids. Then we spend about an hour.

I make an afternoon of it every Saturday or Sunday. I get all the essentials from the farmer’s market, then whatever I can’t get from there at either Whole Foods or Trader Joe’s. Sometimes make a special third stop at the Asian market or default chain grocery store, depending. Most weeks it takes up a couple hours, but much of that is transit time.
