What is your opinion of the song "Gangnam Style"?

Have you heard the song Gangnam Style ? I was briefly introduced to this song by my son and it was quickly filed as “stupid” by me, since I only understand 3 words in the whole damn song because it is sung in Korean. I am very into punk and heavy metal music, and this is about as far from it as you can go, but I’ll be damned if I don’t find this song extremely catchy now. What do ya think?

I don’t get it. It certainly seems to have a longer life than I had imagined/hoped it would. They’re still doing covers/parodies. Wasn’t it too much after the first ubiquitous month? The second? Chomsky is even in the latest MIT one. I suspect the crash will be one of the most drastic of any meme or cultural viral phenomenon we have seen. People will be abused for even mentioning this song come January.

I wondered what language it was in because it is everywhere and extremely annoying, but like @Only138 said, once it is stuck in your head it is rather catchy!

I don’t know about “annoying”.. when you see the video I can’t help but think it’s just plain good…. but yea.. januaray 2013.. let’s see what I think then.

I mean, I never listen to it on purpose. It’s just a song that you know will burn itself out. A song that is “too good”.. just like kids and young folks and mambo #5 and a bunch of others.

They’re mainstream songs that seem pivotal somehow. As the original Punk poster commented, they seem to infectiously cut through anyone’s hatred of their genres like a knife through butter… for a while.. then eventually you’re like: “OKAY NO MORE THANKS!!”

For those who don’t know, the song is itself a parody. Psy is making fun of the excesses of Gangnam culture, and he is doing it in a way that is pretty amusing if you are familiar with the targets of his parody.

When I first heard it I could not stand it. Then I saw the video, which to me, is hilarious even though it may not intend to be. I like the song now – I think in 20 years it will remind me of “who what why when where” I heard it 2012. The song sounds so silly, and it reminds me of other novelty songs that are so stupid but catchy, I can’t help but like them in some high-schoolish, dopey way.

First saw it about 2 months ago. I thought it was hysterical. I never thought it would take off and be what it has become.
It is completely stupid. The video is deranged. I only liked it because it was so awful!

It’s so bad but I actually quite like it. I wouldn’t download it for my own music collection but I don’t mind hearing it on the radio, it certainly beats anything Cheryl Cole has to offer!!!

It has a “William Hung-ish” quality to it (remember him?) because even tho it’s annoying as hell, the protagonist has a certain unpretentious charm so it’s difficult to really hate him or it with any vengeance.

But when it comes on I just change the channel and go on with life realizing it will disappear into oblivion shortly :)

It’s annoying and catchy at the same time. When a local station plays it, it’s stuck in my head for hours. Kind of like that “let’s hum” song from the Prius commercial.

The video is totally over the top silly. The whole thing is awesomely bad, like a bad 80s action movie. I love it.
