Question about steering wheel controllers for PC?

Alright so I’ve played racing games for a hell of a long time, but I’ve never gotten a steering wheel controller, it’s always keyboard for me.

However one thing that does bother me is that you can’t easily keep a steady speed, if you are trying to match traffic you have to constantly adjust, and are always a bit slower or faster.

I was wondering, do steering wheel controllers (with the foot pedals) fix this? Are you able to keep a steady speed like when you are actually driving? Also is that with most games you use them on or do they need to be programmed to do that?

Yes, you can, though you have to maintain a certain pressure on the pedal to maintain the speed.
Also, with certain games, a steering wheel is a must.
In NFS Shift and Shift 2 the cars are virtually uncontrollable with a keyboard as they spin out of control incredibly fast. The same is true with the GTR series.

@ragingloli Awesome, I definitely want one then, I’ve gotten back into driver san francisco and its fun being a cop goin with the traffic until you spot a car to chase, but keeping that speed is annoying.

@XOIIO
Just make sure that the angle of the wheel is nicely flat. I made the mistake of buying one that has a near 45° angle, and it is terrible.

@ragingloli Well there’s an add on kijiji for a microsoft sidewinder one for only 20 bucks, I’m really hoping it’s still available, I can’t afford a totally new one right now lol – of course I say that using my razer ouroboros and azer mealodon headphones lol

A steering wheel with pedals is also essential to do proper cornering, you know, braking before the corner, maintaining a constant speed through it, hitting the apex perfectly and then accelerating out of the corner.

@XOIIO
make sure it it is compatible with your OS. because according to wiki, it does not have driver support under vista and 7

@ragingloli Darn, i was going through threads and apparently it works, but I just saw that the feedback doesn’t work :/ I gues I’ll post a want add.

And yeah, corners are bound to be much better.
