Okay so, sorry for those who are excited to see this new Sups movie. Please stop reading now.
Ok, well…THANK YOU @rockfan-! I thought I was the only one who felt that way. I knew it was a mistake when they hired Nolan to get involved. Goyer would have probably done better without Nolan’s guidance and definitely Snyder’s direction.
I felt hey, it’s fine to update these fictional superheroes but why too much angst and zero joy. Where is the fun in that-?
If I want ultra-reality I’d go for a documentary. Nolan did great with his first and second Batman. I enjoyed those. But the third was just an exercise in showing what happens when you ran out of creative juice and you have an obligation to do a third installment. It was tired. So tired. Terrorist attacks…again-?
And then he got Superman. Another fictional character he can turn into a dark and serious character more suitable in today’s world. Really-? But why-? Why dark again-? Are there no more happy people out there-?
Sups is NOT Batman. Yet that didn’t stop them from giving him a pessimistic view in life and wow, yes, even a psychological trauma involving Jonathan Kent’s death.
Everyone knows Mr. Kent will die but my goodness, nothing like this. Nolan and the guys just have to twist it to make it new and dramatic but it only ended up…cruel and unnecessary. Almost stupid come to think of it.
This does not mean the movie would not be a hit. I wish it would be. To pave the way for a Justice League movie down the line. But as a fan of Superman, I’m disappointed. The digital fx were also badly done, especially in the beginning. The action scenes, I got what I wanted there. Lots. But that’s just the cone. No ice-cream.
I wish they didn’t touch Superman’s history at all. Everybody knows that already. But they just have to give it their interpretation in order to reinvent him. Not only his clothes but his emotions and psychological make-up. Fine. Was it satisfying or entertaining at the least-? Super NO.
