Do you think your view of the world is realistic?

“Great Question” (2points)

Explain why you believe your view is based on documentation and not just hype.
Do you think many people prefer to live in a pseudo world based on what makes life easiest for them? Is the ability to tune out reality a good thing all the time, sometimes or never?

Yes, very.

I do not think tuning out is a good idea. I think it is important to be present in life.

@marinelife
I agree but, I admit sometime I envy those who can. Sometimes ignorance appears bliss. I also know educated people who are consumed with what is good for them. They ignore the reality. I do not respect them but, they are rarely stressed out.

Most likely not. One will never know.

Of course. I’m a poor person in America. I don’t have the option to dwell in fantasy. That’s why I like sci-fi

To give as honest an answer as I can, I read and hear so many views that conflict with the one I grew up believing that I’m not sure what my view or views is anymore or how much realism it encompasses.

The map is not the territory.

All of us have only beliefs and narratives about reality. Some may be more useful than others—they may help us and our communities function in some way that facilitates their survival, or advances them somehow—but they are not reality itself, and the usefulness of a worldview does not necessarily mean it is accurate or true, and conversely, the accuracy of a worldview doesn’t necessarily make it useful.

I like Science Fiction too but, only true Sc Fi based on extrapolation of facts.

Inward perception determines the outward reality, and with that it is impossible for one to “fool” themselves, for they can only live in the word that they have created

Now once you do not understand this you would forever be creating and recreating the world inwardly and outwardly, and by that reality will continues to be an elusive Idea.

Absolutely, i’ve never owned a pair of rose tinted spectacles, let alone worn any.

I think my world view is realistic for me, but may or may not be realistic for someone else. The question, I think, can best be addressed by the parable of the blind men and the elephant. This is a copy of the original Chinese parable (with citations), and here is the famous poem by Saxe.

I think this story speaks to the subjectivity of each of our individual worlds. I had a friend who used to say that reality is a mutually agreed-upon mass illusion. when I tell you something is blue, you look at it and see that it is blue, do we both see the same blue?

Denial is my friend and has been for many years. I’m not always prepared to accept the truth, and that’s okay. It’s a slow process sometimes. I don’t always want to sit and contemplate the atrocities of the world, sometimes I want to ignore them and focus on the good things, and that’s okay too.

I try not to kid myself, I try to be aware, but you do what you have to do to get by.

Yes, I do have a realistic view. However the world is perfect, it is people who are not. With such a huge amount of different personalities, it is unrealistic to believe or expect everyone to be as you would wish them to be.
Mankind is like our weather system. We go through seasons and storms. You can’t stop a huge storm or a tsunami but if you know how to read the weather you can prepare or find safety. Once it’s over you can try to repair the damage and enjoy the blue skies once more.

The more knowledgeable we become the better prepared we can be against the blitz. We all rage against the storm closer to home. If you fight or rage against everything it will soon lead you to forget what it is you really value about living life.

I would not want to live in a world that I saw as always being sad, hateful wrong. There are beautiful people in the world only newspapers and instant media doesn’t make money talking about societies rainbows. No. Storms make better headlines.
So do I block out the ugly sometimes. Yes. I feel nature helps me to keep grounded and reminds me there are wonders I can see and some I will never see, but exist anyway. So it helps remind me there are probably more hidden wonders in mankind than I can perceive.

@ucme People often think that those who see try to see the positive as living with rose color glasses. I think most are just trying to do the best they can with what they can have or is present.

My worldview is rather simple: I believe that anything could be possible, but yet I still require evidence to lower my scepticism. I’m not the type of person to outright reject something just because it’s not right in front of my face, but like I’ve said above I need convincing evidence to accept something as a potential reality.

Scientific revolution does not occur by small steps gradually leading to an ultimate truth, but rather it occurs through drastic paradigm changes.

Blondesjon's avatar

I believe that it is realistic-ish.

tups's avatar

I think what @kess is saying is very interesting.

ucme's avatar

@Pandora Wasn’t a critique of any kind, merely a mockery of the term itself.

Not one of us has a grasp on reality. Not one of us could bear such a purity of truth. We’re literally incapable of handling ultimate reality. And if we could handle it, we would surely reject it and carve it up to suit our personal desires.
