It would be nice if everyone could (1) maintain a good weight for health purposes and (2) feel comfortable and at-ease in his/her own skin. As long as a person isn’t risking medical damage, such as Type II diabetes or cardio-vascular problems, who cares? One person’s ideal weight might seem “plump” or “chubby” by another person’s standards.
The questions I’d ask myself are:
- Even if my body isn’t perfect, am I confident when I wear a bathing suit? Can I enjoy myself, or do I tend to shun the beach and swimming pools because I don’t like my appearance?
- Do I have a wardrobe of clothes that fit and look nice, or do I hide within baggy t-shirts and sweats? Do I avoid certain events because I don’t have appropriate things to wear?
- Can I climb a flight of stairs, or briskly walk a few blocks, without feeling tired and winded? Are my blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar normal?
- Do I spend too much time envying people who are thinner than I am, comparing myself to them and wishing I could look the same?
