Roman Catholic sing at the beginning, middle and end, so it wouldn’t matter. I was also in choir when I was a teen. Best part of church for me. However, our songs aren’t all doom and gloom. They are actually uplifting. At least the ones I’ve ever heard. Sometimes the preaching is doom and gloom depending on the priest, and I wish there was a way to skip those.
I happen to think mass should be uplifting and bringing us closer to understanding God and getting us to live a loving life and spread Jesus love. Not stab a cross in people head.
It should be like dieting. You don’t tell an overweight person they are fat and going to die and every misery they suffer they earned. You would show them ways to improve their health and diet and cheer the on their journey and offer support even when they slip. You would point out their unhealthy diet may have consequences but you offer to be their for them and show them all the benefits to eating well.
I would skip dooms day services and songs as well.
