If you have a TV marathon, do you suffer any ill-effects?

“Great Question” (2points)

I’ve been watching a TV series on DVD. There are 4 seasons in my box set ie 40×1 hour episodes. I’ve also been watching the 5th series on TV. I’ve been watching 2 or 3 episodes a night. It’s the same amount of TV that I would normally watch but I would normally watch a variety of programmes, often with breaks or adverts. I am loving the series but I feel a bit weird. I can’t sleep properly and keep having dreams about the characters and events. I am also thinking about them a lot during the day. I feel a bit dazed and unreal. The series is French and I am also finding myself thinking about French words and sentences and responses much of the time. (I am also going to lessons to improve my French).

I will have a break from it then just watch one episode at a time a couple of times a week. That should stop the weird feeling (and make the series last longer since I’m on the last box).

I was just curious to know if anyone else has been affected by an overdose of TV?

My husband and I do this pretty often. I don’t believe either of us have had any trouble with it at all.

I get very tired.

I do most of my tv-watching this way. I don’t usually suffer any ill effects, but some series will stay with me more than others. Maybe this one just resonates with you for some reason.

There’s a good episode of Portlandia about this…

@Zaku That episode is a harrowing documentary based on my real life.

Depends on what I watch. Scary or even only gloomy shows will make me hyper-aware of noises at night. I try to limit my intake, but…I do love some of those shows!

I don’t sleep well when I watch TV before bed, regardless of its content.

I’ve only done this twice that I remember.

Desperate Housewives was not a problem because, although I thought about it a lot, it’s basically comedy, so I got a kick out of it.

Six Feet Under got so dark and depressing there for a while that I actually had a sort of dread of watching it. Nothing good was going to happen. It certainly brought my days down some, and there were some images that I didn’t want need rambling in my brain. Still and all, I enjoyed the experience overall and the finale made it worth watching. I think overall the series would have been a better experience with less immersion.

No ill effects whatsoever. I consider it strictly a guiltless pleasure.

My butt hurts from sitting in the same place for too long.
