“Great Question” (6points)

With the classes separating more and more over time, and the absolute party politics we have developed, do you think America is eventually headed for a second Civil War? Have we gone past the tipping point?

No. Much more likely is a dissolution of the Republican Party into a couple other parties.

What classes? It’s the rich and the just getting by now. Doubt we’ll see a civil war, just an oligarchy ruling over the proletariate. We’ll be just fat and entertained enough to not get upset about it.

You think our fear led society is becoming heavily armed for civil peace?
I think there will be civil war, but it won’t be rich vs poor. The rich has such a strangle hold on the overall thought of society, that they get us to blame and kill each other instead….

There might be another civil war but only after the current system of government has evolved into some other form (not socialism). Otherwise, any “war” will be a silent, unseen one between the upper class haves and the criminal have-nots.

No, I don’t think there will be a civil war, I think maybe you will get true socialists elected into office if more and more people become downwardly mobile. If not that, then a backlash led by unions or similar groups.

I think one reason a civil war isn’t likely, is because I think if a state, or a few states, wanted to secede we would more easily say, bye bye, this time; rather than have lots of bloodshed.

I don’t. I do believe there should be an agreed split, for the sake of our democracy.
Our government was established at a time when nobody could even imagine the population becoming what it is currently.
I think our nation should split into at least six separate allied nations. We would have way more honesty from our politicians that way. Right now they jump through all sorts of diplomatic hoops trying to please everybody. Six or seven presidential races taking place would open the field for lots of new blood, and fresh ideas.
I am anxious to see you jellies chew this one over.

I am near 100% sure we will see further incidents of civil unrest especially if police keep shooting up kids with little to no cause. I am 100% sure we will have our hands full with various forms of domestic terrorists attacks in the years to come. There will be form of economic unrest that will continue to grow until the economy picks up and starts providing more jobs for our out of work workers. The illegal immigration will continue to hog the spotlight for the near future. I also see a strong possibility of water “wars” breaking out and not because of climate change but because we waste our precious water resources in ridiculous fashion.

But with a near idle military force, anything approaching a civil war would be snuffed out in minutes.

@Here2_4 can you please expound on this? Do you mean being as large as it is? Do you mean not being white? Do you mean argumentative? Do you mean Nationalist? Please explain because we jellies can’t chew over what we don;t know is gristle, meat, or fat.

The US should rezone itself into smaller countries, with an agreement to keep a single military. There could be perhaps five to twelve states combined; according to size and/or population, and resources. They would each be governed mostly as we are now with our one fifty state nation. Each would have a president, each would retain the same constitution, etc. An entity similar to the UN should be formed to keep peace and tranquility between the new nations, while still allowing for certain differences and growth.

North Carolina has talked about seceding in the state legislature, problem is the largest employer is the Federal Government. So . . because there is no strategic resources to be protected, they would close Armed Forces bases. Then unemployment would jump up dramatically from all the businesses surrounding the many Armed Forces bases not to mention hundreds of thousand soldiers.
Many other defense contractors ( they would be restricted from supplying the US government because of “Buy American”) would also leave.
The other large employers in NC are Wells Fargo Band an Bank of America.

I don’t think so. I cannot figure out who would be fighting who and where the boundaries would be.

filmfann's avatar

No, since it didn’t happen with Texas during the Obama administration.
Plus, a civil war between moneyed and poor would be difficult to split, and there are a lot more poor.

rojo's avatar

@filmfann you are right, but the rich have the military and the police. Thus the need for the second amendment.

@rojo good to see some here get it.

I don’t know if open civil war is inevitable. To me it seems much more important to be aware of the class war that’s being waged, and more importantly, who it is that’s clearly winning that war. Did you ever notice how those who call attention to the lopsided situation in the country are always accused of fomenting class warfare, as though the current situation is one of peace and the natural order of things. Our problem is one of public consciousness, and the winners are acutely aware of this. After all, in a supposed democracy there’s something rather peculiar in 1% of the population walking away with 90% of the rewards. But notice how the conversation on these matters always shifts to obscure and complex reasons for the rich fattening up as the rest of us waste away. The moment the majority of us understand that our wasting away is necessary for that fattening at the top, we will have a shot at a brand new ball game, and that will be a revolution indeed!

Well…I certainly, as a Californian, support state of Jefferson here. I would love to see Northern CA. secede from SoCal.
As far as the possibility of a major civil war, well…possibility vs, probability.

Anything is possible but is it probable? Probably not.
