Do you agree with Jim Webb's take on Hillary and Trump?

“Great Question” (1points)

Former Senator, combat veteran, former Democratic Presidential hopeful Jim Webb said some stunning words this morning on MSNBC Morning Joe’s program.

“Webb, who briefly flirted with an independent bid before deciding against it, said on Friday morning that the Democratic front-runner wasn’t inspirational.”

“I would not vote for Hillary Clinton,” Webb said on MSBNC’s “Morning Joe.”

“The reason why Donald Trump is getting so much support right now is because people are seeing him as the only one who has the courage to clean out the stables of the American governmental system right now,” ”

“When asked whether he’d vote for Trump, Webb said he wasn’t closed to the idea. “I’m not sure yet. I don’t know who I’m going to vote for,” he said.”

“He said Clinton would simply continue President Barack Obama’s policies, but that with Trump, things would change — but he’s not convinced it would be for the better.”

“If you’re voting for Donald Trump, you may get something very good or very bad,” Webb said. “If you’re voting for Hillary Clinton, you’re going to be getting the same thing.”

I have to admit I was taken aback by the frankness of his comments in this interview and of course how he said unequivocally how he would not vote for Hillary and left the door open for a vote for Trump.

Do you agree with Webb that Hillary will be more of the same and Trump possess that unique quality to “clear out the stables of the American governmental system right now”?

This election cycle continues to amaze me.

Serious comments please.

I would vote for the devil before I would vote for a Clinton. That’s a serious comment.

I also would not vote for Clinton, regardless. The analogy of cleaning out the stables is a good one. If you are doing a good cleaning nothing is sacred. If you don’t need it or it doesn’t work, throw it out. Every things needs to be looked at with an objective evaluation. I’m not convinced that Trump is really objective but I am convinced that nothing would be sacred. Maybe that’s what’s needed.

Who would you guys vote for if it’s a Clinton/Trump? What if it’s Clinton/Cruz?

Just curious.

Cruiser's avatar

@Rarebear It would have to be Clinton for VP if I were to vote for her for the reason Webb cites in the interview.

Why were you taken aback by his frankness?

Was Webb the one I said sounded suspiciously like a Republican? O’Malley was the one that reminded me of Odo from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.

Anyway, my serious thought is Drumpf would likely clear out the stables, but they would be uninhabitable for some time afterwards due to the radiation levels.

I grudgingly concur with his analysis except for the part about things being either better or worse with Trump. Believe me, there are possible scenarios in front of us in which today’s “same” look damned good.

Jaxk's avatar

@Rarebear – The way I see it, the economy is in the toilet, we have no good options internationally, and we are divided domestically and snarling at each other like rabid dogs. Clinton has vowed to keep it that way. Even Cruz would be a better option than that.

Rarebear's avatar

You guys still didn’t answer my question though who would you vote for

ARE_you_kidding_me's avatar

That summed up pretty much how I feel except I don’t see much good coming from Trump. I could be wrong but like @Seek mentioned he’ll be more likely to clean the stables but take a big steaming shit right in the middle leaving us to live in the stink.
@Rarebear given those choices and no third party I simply will withhold my vote. That’s just like saying I’d rather be shot in the left temple than the right one.

ragingloli's avatar

you know who else “cleared out the stables”?
Hitler.
And the other official republican candidates are barely any better.
I mean, it has only been 70 years, and already people have become unable to see the writing on the wall.

If you need to vote for a republican candidate, choose Clinton.

“_If you’re voting for Donald Trump, you may get something very good or very bad,” Webb said. “If you’re voting for Hillary Clinton, you’re going to be getting the same thing._”

Sounds about right and, given the choices, I’m okay with that.

Rarebear's avatar

Okay, then, let me rephrase the question. If you could have your ideal candidate, who would it be?

ragingloli's avatar

bernie? you know, the only rational and honest one of all of the candidates?

Strauss's avatar

I don’t agree with Webb’s assessment. Change for the sake of change is not necessary a good thing unless the change is for the better. Given Webb’s take on the choices, with Clinton you get more of the same, with Trump you get unknown change. My answer would be for a stable that’s at least usable rather than a stable that’s been through such a purge that the baby gets thrown out with the bath water.

How’s that for mixing metaphors?

Rarebear's avatar

@ragingloli I’m sorry, I know where you stand and I respect it. This was meant for for @jaxk and @MollyMcGuire.

Jaxk's avatar

@Rarebear – I will vote and I will vote against Hilary regardless of who it is.

Rarebear's avatar

@Jaxk Fair enough. Who do you support now?

Strauss's avatar

@Jaxk A protest vote is fair and honorable.

LostInParadise's avatar

Both Trump and Cruz frighten me, Cruz more than Trump because he is smarter and more diabolical, but they both look like autocrats to me. I don’t care for Clinton, but more of the same is looking a lot better than the alternative.

Cruiser's avatar

@Rarebear My ideal candidate would be Paul Ryan but I feel he/we are best off wi8th him as Speaker for now and if the Dems win the Presidency I will get my chance to vote for him in 4 years…if the Republicans win I will get my chance to vote for him in 8 years.

@LostInParadise I respectfully disagree that Cruz is smarter than Trump as if that were the case he would not be getting his ass kicked in the polls by Trump this late in the game.

Jaxk's avatar

@Rarebear – I am solidly for Rubio. I like him but wish he hadn’t been forced to enter the cage match with Trump. If Rubio gets out, I’m a lost soul. I really have to second place, only those dislike more than others.

ibstubro's avatar

I’m the anti- @Jaxk.

As much as I hate Hillary, I’ll have to vote for 4 more years of the same over giving the keys to the kingdom over to Reality TV.

And if the Senate refuses to give a hearing to any Obama SCOTUS nominee?
I’ll vote straight Democratic, so help me.

Jaxk's avatar

@ibstubro – I get a kick out of that. I don’t know if the Obama nominee will get a hearing or not but they won’t be confirmed. I’m sure of that. Obama will nominate a judge as far left as he can find and as totally unacceptable as possible. That gives him another wedge issue to entice people such as yourself, to do just that. With Hilary looking more and more likely, he has nothing to lose and everything to gain. Hell even if Trump pulled off a miracle and got elected, Trump would nominate a liberal. Obama’s history would indicate that strategy. He’s used it over and over.

ibstubro's avatar

Well, if you and I can figure that out and the leaders of the Senate can’t, @Jaxk, they deserve to lose their jobs, is about the way I have it figured.

Mention of popular Republican governor Brian Sandoval got a thumbs down from Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.
How can they not see that kind of gamesmanship strengthening Trump’s hand?

I think the SCOTUS issue is the best chance the Democrats have for a groundswell to make Hillary win handily.

Rarebear's avatar

@jaxk thanks for the answer and now I understand your point of view. I didn’t know if your dislike for Clinton was coming from the left or the right.
