I thought I’d heard all of Parker’s quotes, but never that one. Excellent. You know, she died hacking out soap opera dialogue for the studios in NYC. She was cremated and her ashes were sent to her lawyer/agent and weren’t claimed for another seventeen years.
She didn’t have a lot of friends in the end as alcoholism stole away the few pleasant aspects of her irascible personality. But she did make regular donations to the NAACP all her life. So, when her lawyer died and they found her ashes on the lawyer’s bookshelf, the NAACP claimed them and gave her a very nice burial and placed her ashes in a small monument in front of their offices in Baltimore.
