I liked all of those hokey “BIFF”....“BAMM”.....graphics when they were fighting. And the great Burgess Merideth as The Penguin.

Also, when they made the first Batman movie in the late 80s, and it was announced that Michael Keaton would play the lead role, Mr. West was quoted as saying:

“They didn’t even ASK me…..”

Anyway, RIP, Adam. It was fun. Thanks.

“POW”, “KAPOW” moments were the best.

We that first knew you loved you.

I was 2 to 5 when his show was on TV, and I was a HUGE fan.

One of my earliest memories is my neighbor and I tying our trikes together to make a Batmobile. We had matching Batman shirts. We sped off, not quite parallel, moving apart, and the rope went SPROING! and pulled us back into a pile. LOL.

I still love the 1966 film. The penguin’s submarine had penguin feet instead of propellers!

My first screen hero. And from all accounts Adam West was a really good guy.

Thanks, Adam West!

Alas, he died as he lived.
Alone, and unremarked.

Adam West was the only Batman that mattered to me. All of the subsequent movies were crap in my opinion. I loved watching Batman on TV when I was a kid.

Adam West did a cameo, as himself, on The Big Bang Theory. He was hilarious.

A few of my friends got to meet him at Comic Con and similar venues and they all said he was a really nice man.

All of those corny lines in “Batman” and “Family Guy.” RIP, dude!

Batman is dead? Now were stuck with freakin’ Spider Man and Ninja Turtles.

@NomoreY_A Wonder Woman remains. She can stay with me in these difficult times. I shall comfort her. I shall make that sacrifice.

@Call_Me_Jay Hey, that Jay – what a guy, huh! ; )

Silly as his TV series was, Adam West, like George Reeves before him, was the first and last superhero I truly loved. RIP, Mr. West.

I loved the old Batman series. I liked the way the screen tilted when the bad guys were plotting and the satisfying POW KERPOW moments when they were defeated. I will look up an episode on Youtube for old times sake. RIP.

I wasn’t a fan of his, since I take Batman very seriously , but i liked the way he could laugh at himself.
Oddly, when I think of him, the first thing I think of is his playing an astronaut in “Robinson Caruso On Mars”, a movie he might be in for 5 minutes.

I loved that he was in on the joke. I heard him say that Batman & Robin, while taken very seriously by kids at the time, was intended as a comedy for the adults in the audience. People who criticized it as being ridiculous and not true to the Batman mythos missed the point. It was supposed to be ridiculous. It was a farce in super hero trappings. Adam West and his Batman weren’t unintentionally funny. He was just funny.

Also, @ragingloli

He was surrounded by family at the time of his passing.

Our dad always saw himself as The Bright Knight, and aspired to make a positive impact on his fans’ lives. He was and always will be our hero.

Sorry, 0-points for accuracy and compassion.

He was my Batman, and the age I watched him, he was serious enough for me. He also seemed to be a good person with a sense of humor, and was funny in his later comic appearances.

Personally, I always thought he was a lousy actor. Stiff. His passing means nothing more than the passing of any other stranger.

I remember thinking why choose satin batgloves & with those fancy fins running along the hem?
I mean, why wear gloves in the first place?
Satin though…shit just gunna slip out ya hands man.

I’m sure he had fun voicing the mayor of Quahog in ‘Family Guy’.

(the mayor’s name: Adam West…..)

filmfann's avatar

@cookieman When Tim Burton began production on his first Batman movie, West actively campaigned for the role, even though this was obviously not a comedy.

@filmfann: True. I remember that. Good thing he didn’t get it then.
