“Great Question” (0points)

My son just got transferred to Austin TX. I’ll meet him in Los Angeles and we’ve got three days to kill on a road trip to get him to Austin. We’re looking for best sights to photograph along the way.

Any suggestions?

There are so many places in New Mexico to visit, depending on what highway you take. Bandeleier National Monument, Taos, even Albuquerque (Sandia MOuntain) has some great views.

Arizona: Saguaro Cactus National Park etc.

Really, lots and lots of places. Decide on what highway you will take first.

How far out of your way do you want to go?

Joshua Tree is on the way. I would recommend the Grand Canyon and Sedona, Arizona and Monument Valley, but that is a digression from a direct route.

You’ll be going through Las Cruces; you can go to where the atomic bomb was developed.

And, a bit off the direct path but definitely worth it for a photographer, Marfa,Texas

I second Sedona (where many early Westerns were made) and the breathtaking Grand Canyon!!

Make a point of going to Santa Fe, if you take the northern route. Taos for art enjoyment. Los Alamos National Lab has a fascinating tour, as well.

If you’re lucky you may get to see SLCs. Those make for cool pictures and incredible sunsets. Texas weather is like Kansas weather.

Everything, and nothing…........

@Dutchess_III There are multiple Salt Lake Cities? That would make for cool pictures….

No no. SLC is a term I first heard by a meteorologist on TV a few years ago. He said, “There is a high probability of SLCs today….” and someone off camera said, “What are SLCs?”
“Scary Looking Clouds,” he said, and continued with his news cast. I rolled! And never forgot it.

@Dutchess_III is right SLC’s is an official term in meteorology.

The storm coming into Texas.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Yep. Had some friends evacuating this morning.

Yeah, if you can get in just behind the storm there should be some amazing pictures you can get.
