There are fewer professional golfers than there are professional football players or basketball players, so basic math probably explains some of the difference between team sports and individual sports. And even then, golf has still given us John Daly, Dustin Johnson, and Tiger Woods. As for baseball, there’s plenty of scandal there. Either you’re not paying attention, or it just doesn’t get reported as much because football and basketball get higher ratings.

I would argue that they are loaded up with normal people. In fact, many make their communities a better place. There are 53 players on an active NFL roster. You sometimes hear about a handful in the league, in a negative light.

As far as the NBA. Most don’t really have a good education. They are pushed through high school, and some barely attend college.

Many from both sports are on a athletic scholarship. Many came from impoverished beginnings.

Most golf players had a much easier upbringing. Many have affluent families, and don’t have their troubles made as public. The ones I’ve met, are mostly entitled, rich boy losers. I’ve met a decent amount over the years, living in Charleston.

Lots of MLB players are foreigners. They probably have checkered pasts too. But we aren’t exposed to them here in the US. Don’t forget rampant steroid abuse. That doesn’t speak very highly of their character.

Last time I checked tiger woods has a checkerd past. Also a-rod was a baseball player.

Over and Under reporting. Nobody cares about “baseball” and “golf”, so they ignore the 99% of “baseball” players that beat up their wives with baseball bats, and the 105% “golf” players that bash in their wives heads with golf clubs and bury the corpses in the golf course underbrushes.

Cricket players are typically gentlemanly and kind.

Football and basketball have many many more professional players than golf and baseball combined I bet. I don’t know the numbers though. Statistically, the odds are better there will be more bad apples.

Plus, football and basketball are much more popular with the general public, so those stories get picked up by the national news.

Lastly, golf is generally an expensive sport, so higher social classes tend to play. Not that the higher classes don’t have some bad behaving people, but it’s probably less likely, and much much more likely the story gets buried somehow, and people never find out about it.

Sure, but aside from using PEDs (par-for-the-course in his business) Alex Rodriguez really hasn’t had much of a checkered personal history. He’s divorced, but half this country is divorced from at least one spouse.
