Pretty much anything with vowels next to each other. I flip them around about 80 percent of the time.

Silhouette and camouflage give me trouble. I have to google them every time.

imrainmaker's avatar

^^Did you google them now as well? JK..)

Silhouette I got this time because I’d already written it earlier today (I had to google it then). I had to google camouflage while writing the above answer. No shame, lol.

imrainmaker's avatar

^^No shame. We all make mistakes and spelling mistake is just one of them..) What will be use of spellcheck then if we get it right every time.!!

Im prety shur I spell gude all the time.

Accommodate. I get almost the end and have to double check, and backspace. My brain is not wired for two sets of double consonants in that word. I can handle bookkeeper all day, but accommodate always catches me.

Occassion. Ocassion. Occasion. Every single time.

I always want to double up the c’s and the s’s, so that it’s like “occurrence” (with its double c’s and double r’s), but then it’s wrong so I back off a c, but then it’s still wrong so I flip which consonant is double… every single time.

I occasionally (ha!) have a hard time getting bureau/bureaucracy out correctly. I know how to spell it, but it takes a bit of concentration to get the vowels to cooperate.

That’s all I can think of right now.

But I am now wondering if I can spell camouflage on my own, or if it’s just been told to me recently enough that I can pretend and blend in for the time being.

@zenvelo, your brain’s got to find a way to accommodate “accommodate”!

“Pretty much anything with vowels next to each other. I flip them around about 80 percent of the time”.

Do triphthongs, although beautiful, remain outside your oeuvre?

johnpowell's avatar

Can a mod ban @Pinguidchance for giving me a panic attack?

Kidding.. Much love. And yeah beautiful is a word that I will type and then even the spell checker in firefox can’t match so I have to google it. Every.. Single.. Fucking.. Time.

I have to think twice with the x’s and the c’s in “exercise” and “excited.”

Occasionally and innocuous – it’s those which do you double and which do you don’t consonants that trip me up.

Recommend. I just spelled it wrong again but auto correct caught it.

It seems that as we age, a word that looked perfectly fine the previous 5,000 times we wrote (or typed) it suddenly “doesn’t look right”.

Once or twice a month, at our house, my wife will ask…...

“Is this how you spell (then spells it out loud)”

“Yes”

“Are you sure…..??”

“Yes”

(A lot of clicking and clacking behind me is the non-verbal signal that she is checking anyway)

“Yeah, you’re right…..but it still doesn’t look right”

“I’m sure it doesn’t….”

Offen, offen.

@rebbel “Bach at 1, Offenbach later?”

Vacuum. I’m not even completely sure if I’m spelling it correctly right now.
