If they speak my language and treat me nice, yes.

Do I have a choice? Or is it more a go willingly or go unwillingly scenario?

Can I communicate in some way with then to know what they want me for, and to make sure they understand how to make adaptations for any biological differences I have—like the kinds of gases I can breathe, the temperature I can withstand, the foods I can ingest, my need for water, etc.?

Do I ever get to come back?

I have to admit, in the abstract, I lean more yes than no. I’d be insanely curious about wherever they came from, what their life is like, etc., and it’s that curiosity that would make me at least seriously consider the proposition.

If something that appeared to be an alien arrived in something that appeared to be a spaceship, and it didn’t look like a mortal threat, my first attention would be to look for signs that it’s a con. I’d be a pretty hard sell. I’d be curious as hell, but mostly about how they pulled off the illusion.

If an alien came and sat down right next to me at the dinnertable and splayed out sixteen fingers and started to eat with its eyes, I would still think it was an actor in a costume or that I was under hypnotic influence or a drug. About the last possibility would be that it was really an alien. So I think they’d get disgusted and leave without me.

CWOTUS's avatar

They’d probably be more disgusted that you ate with your mouth, @Jeruba. Ewww. Gross.

Like @Jeruba, I would take a lot of convincing. Maybe more than any mortal alien would care to invest, I suspect. Although I would also keep my eyes open (assuming that’s possible, and that I could see or even understand what I was seeing), because I would also be intensely curious.

I think it would be cool. Though I’ve seen documentaries where the person being taken away was traumatized afterwards. If I knew that they wanted to teach or show me something, that would be OK. I’m not sure how I feel about them doing experiments on me, if they were to do so. It could be a great adventure. They would also have to return me to where they found me. I wouldn’t want to end up across the universe with no ride home!

No such documentaries exist @johnnyo. Fictional shows shot in documentary form, perhaps, but no actual documentaries.

I was watching a very silly horror show with an acquaintance that was shot in documentary form. Something about some aliens destroying California. Because it was shot in documentary form this person actually believed it was true!
She kept saying, “This is unbelievable!!”
I said, “Well, yeah. It’s unbelievable because it’s not true.”
“Oh yes! It’s true!” she insisted. “You can just tell it was filmed as it was actually happening.
“Well. Hm. Odd that we haven’t heard anything in the news about it, or I haven’t heard from family and friends in California.”
“Oh that IS really weird!!! The government must not want us to know!!”
Oh the stupid. It burned!!

Treating this Q as I assume it was intended, as an abstract thought exercise and not an excuse to ridicule, I might lean towards “yes”, like @Soubresaut, out of curiosity.

If I become dinner, then silly ol’ me.

RedDeerGuy1's avatar

No. I would miss Fluther and my mom. I would like to know more before they take me.

I’d prefer to discuss a bit to make a more informed decision about what’s planned.

I’m hoping they want advice about how to use their superior technology to set the world on a more pleasant course…

Muad_Dib's avatar

I’m down. Where are we going?

stanleybmanly's avatar

Is the question “would I resist?” The answer hangs on the incentives offered (if any), as well as the force threatened in the event of my resistance.

Dutchess_III's avatar

But you have to leave Ian behind @Muad_Dib! AND ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ucme's avatar

Nah, we have staff for that.

RedDeerGuy1's avatar

In a way I was taken. I had to leave my home town of Jasper and forcefully relocated to Red Deer by the doctors. I’m finally settled in my new city .So I would say no not again.

Muad_Dib's avatar

@Dutchess_III – Sure, but think of the story he’ll have!

Dutchess_III's avatar

IF YOU EVER COME BACK!!!

Muad_Dib's avatar

Sometimes you just don’t pass up a once-in-a-lifetime chance.

This question makes me think of the classic “Twilight Zone” episode, “To Serve Man.” So, maybe not…

Dutchess_III's avatar

AND SOMETIMES YOU DO MOUSE GIRL!!!! DON’T LEAVE ME!!!

Man, Twilight Zone was just epic especially for it’s time. The time this normal family lived in this normal house…normal until they opened the drapes and opened the door to be faced with brick walls, and realized they were in a cage, in a zoo, and there were aliens watching them for entertainment.

Love_my_doggie's avatar

^^^ “Twilight Zone” remains epic. The SciFi network (I refuse to call it SyFy, because that’s simply dumb) runs marathons every New Year’s and Fourth of July weekend. So many of those episodes are just as meaningful now as they were way back when.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Rick’s watching watching another program about UFOs as we speak.

We’re so spoiled with our picture perfect entertainment anymore, it takes a little doing to get back into the groove of those old shows. Once I left my son and daughter alone in a hotel room for a while, with instructions not to leave or open the door if someone knocks. They were about 14 and 12 at the time.
When I got back they were on their 3rd episode of the Andy Griffith show and they just couldn’t wait to tell me all about it! Gomer was going into the navy!!!! And Aunt B got mad and told the whole police station off!! And it was really cool.

Earthbound_Misfit's avatar

Are we talking aliens that present like War of the Worlds or ET? If the alien seemed friendly, I think it would be a fabulous adventure to see another world. Can I come back eventually? If I could, imagine the stories I could tell!

If they want to use my blood for fuel, probe me or otherwise, I’m not going willingly.

kritiper's avatar

It depends on what their females look like.

flutherother's avatar

Well seeing as they have visited me I would invite them in and get to know them a little first. If we seem to get on OK then yes, visiting their world on Fomalhaut VIII or wherever it is would be thrilling.

ragingloli's avatar

Consent is not a factor. We will take you anyway.

Pinguidchance's avatar

I usually say, “Oh for heaven’s sake, not you guys again”, I thought you probed me sufficiently last time.

Aliens and I have a definite affinity, a thing if you will.

They cross the vast voids of space just to see me and you know, do stuff, and I love it.

All that attention.

Hang on, there’s someone hovering, that’ll be them again, be back soon.

ragingloli's avatar

What if they want to do this

SQUEEKY2's avatar

Only under one condition, I get to drive!!

Patty_Melt's avatar

I would need to know if the food is good.

SQUEEKY2's avatar

@Patty_Melt Maybe YOU are the food.

ragingloli's avatar

*maybe

Patty_Melt's avatar

Well, in that case, we would all be disappointed. :-D
