I’ve seen a bunch of different versions of A Christmas Carol, because I love the story so much. I’ve seen dramas and cartoons and have enjoyed them all. I am right in the middle of watching Albert Finney as Scrooge, one that I had never seen before. It’s wonderful, and it’s a musical : )

I have two favorites, the movie with Patrick Stewart, and the cartoon with Mickey Mouse. I’ve seen a bunch of different versions and I like a lot of them. Which one is your favorite?

Extra credit. For those of you who don’t celebrate Christmas, do you like A Christmas Carol? One of my Jewish friends loves the story as much as I do (especially the Patrick Stewart version).

Oh, by far it’s the black and white 1951 version, with Alastair Sim as Scrooge. It’s very faithful to the book. None of the others that I’ve seen have such a feel of authenticity to them. I’ve watched this one over and over, all the way back to when I was a child, and will probably see it yet again this weekend, if I can get the old VHS tape to play any longer.

Alistair Sim. Watch for the part where he comes downstairs after the night of ghostly visits. There is a mirror on the wall and you can see the camera and crew.

Another vote for Alistair Sim.

The Muppet Christmas Carol. Unlike the Mickey Mouse one, the Muppet Christmas Carol is quite faithful to the original novel. Plus, I love the music. And Rizzo the rat.

The Mr. Magoo Christmas Carol is another I always liked. And it was the first animated TV Christmas special. (1964)

I second kritiper on the Mr. Magoo version. Haven’t seen that in ages!
