Have you ever known anyone, who was like Ebenezer Scrooge, or The Grinch, who had an epiphany and changed his or her way of thinking and acting?

I love the stories of A Christmas Carol, and How the Grinch Stole Christmas, which are very similar in that the main characters were bitter, selfish beings, who had no use for other people or kindness, or empathy, but then by some twist of fate they ended up “seeing the light” as it were, and then they were changed. They became caring, compassionate beings over night.

Have you ever known (or been one of those people) anyone who was very bitter and/or lacked compassion and empathy for other people, who after some type of an ephiphany, completely changed their outlook on life?

No. If anything, the opposite.

I wasn’t a Scrooge or a Grinch ever but I’m more tolerant and accepting now than I ever was.

I was trapped in a time loop until I learned my lesson.

@janbb What was your epiphany?

Not really. My favorite people are those who go to great lengths to cultivate an image of skinflint stinginess, but are in reality kind and very generous. People like Jack Benny. I nearly made the terrible mistake of outing just such a man several years ago. He managed to convince me that snitching him out would mean the end of anonymous unexplained good fortune befalling many otherwise unfortunate souls. And he’s right. It’s much more fun (though humbling) to see him at work.

Well there was Ebenezer Trump but I think he’s still waiting for his epiphany.

@Kardamom No epiphany but some hard knocks and also becoming a Unitarian have helped. Aso, working to get along with my adult children and their families.

@flutherother I don’t think Trump would know an epiphany from a suppository.
