We had fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, and blackeye peas for our New Year dinner. Got burned out on turkey and ham over the course of the holidays.

Why would I eat a second rate band?

rojo's avatar

I did, but turned down the collard greens. I will eat them raw but boiled to a gelatinous mess they are not even worth throwing out.

I think I did, once, like 20 years ago, because someone else had heard of that idea and thought it would be fun… and then I forgot all about it until today.

Just greens.

My Mom used to say that the greens would be good luck for dollars, and the black eyed peas for pennies.

I’ve had enough pennies…

I missed them this year. Maybe I should have some tonight.

Not a tradition in this part of the country.

No, but I did have some black eyed peas in a cold salad dish that my cousin made for our family Christmas potluck this year, about 3 weeks ago. It also had tomatoes and green onions in it. Very tasty.

@rojo I wonder if you might like these Collard Green Wrapped Spring Rolls. No gelatinous mush here : )

Nope. Not going to eat food I can’t stand just because of dumb superstition.
