a dog named beethoven?

I rescued a baby crow from a cat once. I took it to a rather eccentric lady who lived south of Denver, who was reputed to be able to treat and heal and release all kinds of birds. Her entire living room was a huge cage devoted to her pet raven (your example reminded me!) who was named Edgar. He would recite a few lines of the poem for visitors, in exchange for shiny things. I gave him a glass bead bracelet, he thanked me graciously.
That was over twenty years ago, thanks for reminding me!
(Incidentally, I had unoriginally named the baby crow Sheryl…)

I knew a perfectly uniform grey weimaraner who was humorously named Spot, I guess that would be from the Dick and Jane books.

Lately I have been thinking how much I would like a crow. I was fascinated by talking crows as a kid, I think I got the idea from the Dr. Dolittle books. I’ve lived a couple of places where they congregated in the trees outside my window, and enjoyed they way they talk (not English) among themselves. The noise was murder!

The two cats who lived with me during my latter two years of undergrad were named Vladimir and Estragon (Rosenkrantz and Guildenstern were also considered). The fact that they’re cats had nothing to do with the choice of names; I just wanted a literary pair. Needless to say few people ever called them by those names!

I also had a friend whose cats were named Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer.

A friend has a cat named Matisse. Another friend has a cat named Katmandu, not a literary reference, but a cool place, and funny cat name.

My cat named “Annie” after Little Orphan Annie.

I have been racking my brain for more examples

I just recalled that a Labrador/whatever mixed mutt named Ajax lives on my block.

Also remembered that 15 years ago my grocery store had a bulletin board for pet photos, and my favorites were the chickens named Lucy and Ethel.

Can cars be considered pets? I always name my cars after characters in P.G. Wodehouse books. Algernon, Percival etc. Best names in those books https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_P._G._Wodehouse_characters

I used to name houseplants after characters in mystery novels – particularly books by Raymond Chandler.

Oh! Just remembered that I had a series of goldfish in the 1980’s that I named after characters on the Young and the Restless. Ashley, Tracy, Jill, Mrs. Chancellor, Lauren and a few more.
