Stupid people in power are a problem, but generally what’s happening is not just simply that stupid people happen to have wandered into public office!
Stupid people in powerful positions tend to have been chosen for their control-ability by organizations of smarter more powerful corrupt people who want power without being in a public position themselves.
Did George W. Bush personally have ideas and agendas he wanted to lead the US with? ABSOLUTELY NOT! He, like most/all presidents we’ve had at least in recent decades, have been largely figureheads for large powerful power blocks that aren’t elected and don’t have a formal public organizational hierarchy like a government or even a corporation. Why did H.W. Bush and G.W. Bush lead us to invade Iraq? Mainly because the international oil industry wanted to be able to predict oil prices, and Saddam Hussein was having unpredictable influences on the fluctuation of oil prices.
The stupidity of the people in office is just a frequent side-effect of the domination of our politics by wealthy powerful groups that want people in office who can be predicted and controlled. And that, according to me, is part of why the world is a mess.
The other part has to do with all the stuck dysfunctional ideas and repeated conversations and conceptions that pervade our cultures at all levels. If those corrupt powerful groups I mentioned would shift their thinking so they are about having the world they control be a pleasant and healthy and sustainable place, their power-mongering might not be a problem!
