First, I love how it’s almost 0 calories, unless you start adding butter and sugar and crap.

My favorite part, though, are the half popped kernels at the bottom. I wish they could invent a popcorn that would only partially pop.

Also, when I was in college, I had a friend from Iowa. Her family grew popcorn. So we went to her home and we picked a bunch of ears of popcorn and brought them back.
We shucked pop corn till our fingers almost bled!

I wonder how it was even discovered (haven’t googled though.)

I am not a fan of popcorn. I hate those shell skins sticking to the inside of my mouths.

I love getting the stiff outer shell stuck between my teeth and gums. Also cracking my teeth on in popped kernels is fun too.

When I was a kid mom would pop up popcorn in a large, heavy duty pressure cooker over the stove. I remember shaking and shaking that pot. Then she’d unwrap an entire stick of butter and set it on top and it melted throughout.

The scent of freshly popped popcorn, drizzled with butter is one of the most magical aromas on earth.

I too am a lover of the half popped kernals.

I love the sound of popcorn popping.

My friend makes homemade caramel corn every year for Xmas goodies, along with the cookies and fudge she makes. It’s so good!

I love Boom Chicka Pop brand bagged popcorn with white cheddar. It’s better than cheese puffs.

I like to string popcorn as a garland for the Xmas tree.

@DutchessIII If I remember correctly, the plains tribes of Native Americans turned the settlers onto popcorn. I have little doubt that the “discovery” of popcorn was probably the result of some attempt to roast an ear of the stuff or some storage facility going up in flames— that sort of thing. It’s easy to imagine that it wouldn’t be long after the discovery of fire for popcorn to come into its own once foraging natives came across it.

But I don’t think just any corn will pop into popcorn @stanleybmanly. I THINK it’s a specialized type of corn. I think. Wow. I’ve never ever thought otherwise until now, so now I need to research.
